Michigan AI Foundry

Make AI useful
where work happens.

Michigan AI Foundry develops practical AI tools and workflows that help people research complex questions, organize information, create useful documentation, and move projects forward.

We combine your knowledge of the work with AI-assisted research, development, and testing. The people responsible for the work remain in control of decisions and results.

How we can help

We start with the work you need to accomplish, then identify where AI can make a useful contribution.

Use AI where it helps

AI is a tool. It should help reduce time and effort, improve the usefulness of information, or make a task easier to accomplish. It isn’t appropriate for every situation. We assess its fit against the work, the risks, and the effort required—including the need for human review—and recommend a simpler approach when that makes more sense.

01

Put AI to work

Practical skills for everyday tasks

Discover how AI can help prioritize an overflowing inbox, draft replies, develop proposals, and turn meeting notes into next steps.

This introductory session uses familiar tasks to help you give clear instructions, check results, and recognize and improve “AI slop.”

No technical background required.

02

Documentation and knowledge workflows

Turn information you provide into organized drafts, reports, and reusable resources. We build specialized AI assistants that support revision and keep you responsible for the final content.

03

Workflow design and implementation

Turn a recurring challenge into a practical process. We help organize inputs, clarify steps and responsibilities, and develop tools that support work from initial research through delivery.

04

Data tools and interactive applications

Make complex information easier to explore and understand. We combine data preparation, validation, and application development to create useful tools with clear sources and explanations.

05

Research and information synthesis

Bring scattered sources, documents, and observations into a clearer picture. We develop workflows that support research, comparison, and analysis while preserving sources, uncertainty, and professional review.

Practical work.
Concrete examples.

From public data tools and investigative workflows to energy opportunity development and educator documentation, our work shows how AI can support different professional needs.

01

RailStats.org Making public data useful

A project developed by Michigan AI Foundry.

Turned official railroad data into a public website with interactive comparisons, downloadable datasets, and clear source explanations through AI-assisted research and development.

02

Data Intelligence Agency Supporting investigative practice

Applied AI to research, evidence organization, analytical synthesis, and workflow development. The work supported client deliverables and repeatable internal processes, with verification and investigative judgment remaining with the licensed investigator.

03

Energy Optimization Services Clarifying complex energy opportunities

Used AI to connect fragmented customer, utility, site, and commercial information for battery energy storage opportunities. Produced decision-ready reports and a repeatable process supporting qualification, commercial development, and execution planning.

04

IEP Writer Pro Supporting professional documentation

Built a custom GPT to help lessen providers’ administrative burden by organizing student information and supporting special-education document drafting. Providers review and personalize the output and retain responsibility for accuracy and educational decisions.

Practical AI, shaped around your work.

Michigan AI Foundry brings together knowledge of the work, AI tools, and hands-on development to turn ideas into useful approaches.

The “Foundry” name reflects that process: taking raw material—questions, documents, data, and experience—and shaping it into something people can use. That might be a clearer report, a specialized assistant, an interactive application, or a more manageable workflow.

Experience behind the work

Our principals bring experience in research, opportunity development, public-data analysis, and professional documentation. Across this work, they have organized complex information, developed reports and tools, and supported decisions that require careful review and professional judgment.

That experience shapes our approach to AI: start with the practical problem, understand the context, and develop something useful with the people responsible for the work.

We work alongside the people who know the subject. Their knowledge guides the process, and their judgment remains essential to checking the results and deciding what comes next.

Whether you’re getting acquainted with AI or exploring a specific project, we aim to make the next step understandable, practical, and worth taking.
